The Youth Empowerment and Nurturing Initiative (YENI) is a grassroots NGO based in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya. We believe every young person deserves access to skills, opportunity, and hope — regardless of their circumstances.
Our Mission
YENI was founded by refugee community leaders who saw the urgent need for structured vocational training and skills development. In a camp where over 60% of the population is under 25, we provide pathways to self-sufficiency.
Since our founding, we have trained over 500 young people in culinary arts, textile manufacturing, digital skills, and community leadership. Our graduates have launched micro-businesses, secured remote jobs, and become mentors for the next cohort.
